From a 'let's say something positive about Bush' thread on Bilerico.

In his first term, Bush held a class reunion of the all-male class he was in at Yale. However, one of his classmates was a MtF transsexual. Bush welcomed her to the White House by saying something to the affect, "Nice to see that you got to finally be yourself."

I need to verify this happened, but if it did...okay. Considering how transphobic this whole country is, that is a wonderful thing. It makes no sense in the context of other things done, but it's still awesome.

Did you verify it?

Girlfriend, Esq. pointed out yesterday, in reference to something else, that...whatever his other faults (and they're legion!), Bush is the type of man who at least fancies himself a gentleman. In that context, behavior like this makes some sense.

I tried googling, but didn't find anything. Might take up the search again when I have more time/brain power this weekend. Might ask the woman who noted it in the thread to give a source if nothing else.
