I have a cat on my lap...
Jul. 30th, 2007 09:27 pmI also have a title for the story I've been working on (or at least a working title). It may change, of course, but it's easier for me to work if I can refer to it by name instead of 'that story with the weird chick' or some such thing.
Naamah's Daughter
Why? Well, if you mind not the spoilers
Naamah
Angel of Prostitution
Name means: "pleasing "
Founder of the Namarre line who's members include:
Barquiel L'Envers - brother of Isabel; Duc L'Envers
Valere L'Envers - wife of the Lugal of Khebbel-im-Akkad; daughter of Barquiel L'Envers
Character in the Trilogy:
Naamah was one of Elua's Companions. She laid with strangers for coin to support Elua. She was also the patron-goddess of the Night Court.
Character in Religion & Mythology:
Naamah was one of Satan's wifes. She was known as the "mother of demons"; and the "Great Seducer, not only of men but of spirits and demons".
In the cabala, Naamah is one of four angels of prostitution, all mates of Sammael, the other three being Lilith, Eisheth Zenunim, and Agrat (Iggereth) bat Mahlat. According to Rabbi Isaac, the sons of God, Naamah corrupted specifically Uzza and Azael. Rabbi Simeon was first to then call her mother of demons, and Rabbi Hiya believed she was the "great seducer," and that, with Lilith, she "brought epilepsy to children."
In The Legends of the Jews I,150, Naamah is the mother of the devil Asmodeus by the angel-demon Shamdan. In Genesis 4:22, Naamah is a mortal and sister of Tubal-cain. From Hebrew myths Naamah is said to be the daughter of Lamech and is considered the "mother" of divination.
Also I think that Sammael was the one Neil made the initial bargain with, I'll have to do more research to be sure.
My title is kind of misleading, as Gwen's not exactly...erm...yes. Keeping mouth shut now until I'm able to write again.
