I know, been a few months but I've been busy. Anyway, new chapter of I Should Tell You. Or at least a rough draft, I'm not that happy with it but I know even this will make [livejournal.com profile] spacequeen happy.

"Mommy, when's Curt gonna come visit again?"

Mandy turned her head from the TV, drawing her gaze to Kim, who was laying on her stomach on the floor coloring. She was still doing this as she asked, completely focused on the task at hand and seeming almost oblivious to the question she'd posed.

Mandy cleared her throat nervously, running a hand through her hair as she tried to search for a good answer. It had been three weeks since that night, and Curt hadn't even called, and Mandy herself was too afraid of what she might encounter if she was the one to break the silence. Curt stoned out of his mind or some woman-

"Mom-eee!" Kim whined, letting out an exasperated sigh and dropping her crayon.

Mandy blinked, then sighed heavily.

"Sorry baby. I ah...I don't know when Curt's gonna come back. He's got a lot going on."

"Oh..." Kim was quiet for a moment, then shrugged.

"Okay. Tell him to come over when he has time, okay? He's nicer than your other boyfriends."

Mandy couldn't do anything but stare in dumb shock as her daughter kept coloring, unable to come up with a good response to that. Kim couldn't possibly think they were...and they weren't anyway, were they? Of course not. She'd given up years ago on having any type of relationship with Curt. She didn't want to have a relationship with him, she just wanted him to have one with Kim. Right? Of course.

Mandy sighed when she glanced at the clock and saw it was past two. Fuck. Okay, she'd try calling him one last time, then if he didn't pick up she'd leave a message and go to bed.

Earlier that night, when she'd put Kim to bed, she'd noticed that the little girl hadn't taken off the silver wolf's paw necklace Curt had given her and, when questioned, Kim said that she'd been wearing it for the last three weeks because it was the coolest thing anyone had ever given her. So, disregarding the fact that she might be brought face to face with some of the not-so-pretty truths of whatever life Curt was still leading by doing so, Mandy had called him. So far, she'd tried probably over twenty in the last six hours with no answer.

When the machine clicked on, Mandy rolled her eyes and forced her tired brain to kick in for five more seconds.

"Umm, hey Curt. Listen, uh, Kim's been asking for you and...umm, yeah. Just call me when you get this, okay?" and then she dropped the phone, turned out the light and went to sleep.

"Mommy!"

"Wh-?" Mandy muttered, opening her eyes as something solid and warm hit her in the chest. She blinked several times, then reached over to turn on the bedside lamp. She sighed when she realized that Kim had wrapped her skinny arms around her abdomen, burrowing her head in her chest.

"Hey baby, what's up?" she murmured, stroking her daughter's hair, frowning when she realized the little girl was trembling.

"I-I had a nightmare," Kim said, keeping her face firmly placed in Mandy's nightshirt. Mandy sighed heavily, taking a quick glance at the clock to see it was a bit after four, then pulled back a little, cupping a hand under Kim's chin so she could wipe her face.

"Oh sweetheart. Wanna talk about it?"

Kim nodded, running a hand under her nose. Mandy leaned back, wrapping an arm around her daughter.

"Okay baby. What happened?"

"I..I dunno, I just dreamed that something really bad happened to Curt and that's why he hasn't been around."

Mandy barely held back a sigh, turning her head to kiss Kim's hair.

"Kimmie, you know he's just been working."

"I know that! I said it was a nightmare," Kim said grumpily. "It just scared me."

"Okay honey. Well, do you feel better now?"

"Yeah," Kim said, smiling a bit. As tired as she was, Mandy smiled too, kissing Kim's forehead as she turned out the light again.

"Okay. Let's try to get some sleep then, all right?"

"All right Mommy. I love you."

Mandy smirked, closing her eyes and hugging Kim to her.

"Love you too angel."

"Nnngh," Mandy snarled as sunlight hit her eyes. She looked around the room, smiling when she saw Kim. A smile which quickly faded when she looked at the clock and saw it was almost eight.

"Oh shit," she muttered, clambering out of bed, not even taking the care to let Kim sleep. Not that it mattered, that girl slept like a log.

Mandy raced to get her clothes on, quickly going to kitchen to make some coffee. Without thinking about it, she turned on the radio when she went to the cupboard. Her hand froze, poised amongst the mugs, as a perky female DJ spoke in a voice far too chipper for the news she was reading.

"-Curt Wild was found unconscious in his New York apartment from an apparent heroin overdose and taken to Mercy West. Curt Wild was a popular musician in-"

"Oh no. No no no..." Mandy whispered, pulling her hand from the cupboard and scrounging through her purse to see if she had the money for a cab. That bastard. If he died on her now, she'd never forgive him for it.

LMFAO! That comment made my day, which is kinda sad.

I've actually been planning this for awhile. I was bouncing ideas off of Bri the second to last time I was over there. I knew something bad had to happen. For a nanosecond the girls considered doing something to Kim to bring Curt back, but the boys and Bri's muses gave them death glares.
