Another rant already? Yep

But this one's different. Not personal, exactly. All right, doing research for the project I'm going to start with Bri, trying to look up some stuff on battered men. You all know how adament I am about protection for rape/abuse survivors. THOSE INCLUDE MEN. I have never, NEVER denied the fact that women abuse, or that men can be survivors of abuse commited by other men. So seeing some stuff is making me sick, like the use of the phrase 'so-called battered men'. That's like saying 'supposed rape' in my mind. I mean...how can you deny these people have been injured? Yeah, he stabbed himself in the back. Bull SHIT. And one thing asking 'why don't battered men leave?' same reason battered WOMEN don't leave, and then some. Women are more likely to be believed about abuse, men are given even worse crap than women survivors. Fuck, this is why Tori (and I, and many other women) will NOT take on the feminist label: feminism is, supposedly, equated with man hating. Yeah, I've got some hang ups with men. But most of them are good, and they CAN be abuse survivors, even if they are bigger and stronger and all that shit.
Just had to get it out. Heh.

on 2006-07-23 02:41 am (UTC)about people
not believing men
;_;
i read this poem
and all the lines were
sad... and one was like
"i'm the woman who
was turned away from
the women's shelter
when they found out my
abuser was another woman"
as in, she was a lesbian
so they turned her away
sometimes i wish i could scream at the world

on 2006-07-23 02:45 am (UTC)Yeah. That's one reason I'm going to do this story with Bri. Usually my work portrays abused females (and Dave, the battered husband in this, eventually ends up with a woman whose husband beat her and her children), but I wanted to show the flip side. If it gets published, maybe it'll open some eyes. Maybe.

on 2006-07-23 02:51 pm (UTC)It also irritates me hugely the way feminism is portrayed. Alanis once said "Its not about taking over, its about joining in" thats whats its about really, equality. I hate the media for how it demonises feminism. I know some people come across as men haters and I certainly dont agree with that...but *sigh* it just gets me all flustered and then I dont make sense! Its a *head wall* moment for me :-( on both subjects
