I just sent off my first query letter to The Knight Agency. Meaning several nice weeks of 'do they like it? is it in their trash?'. To read the letter

Dear Ms. Spencer,

I am writing to you in regards to the novel , Put Away Your Dreams.
Put Away Your Dreams is a non-formulaic romance taking place in the early 70’s to the late 80’s, mostly during the glam rock period in London. It centers around the lives of Amy Crownen and her model husband, Taylor, his love interest Christopher Raider and the glam rocker Kevin Birmingham.
Amy, tired of her husband’s abuse and the numerous infidelities, falls in love with Kevin after meeting him at a party. The romance goes well until it is discovered that Taylor’s boyfriend, Christopher, is also in love with Kevin. Taylor, despite the fact they are in an open marriage, forces his wife to give up her lover if she wants to retain custody of her unborn child. Thirteen years later, Amy meets Kevin again when he is dying of AIDS, attempting to explain why she broke it off with him all those years ago and convince him that she still loves him.
In the end, after several weeks of talking things out and explaining her reasoning for the things she did in the past, Amy finally gets Kevin to forgive her. They sleep together, and six weeks later, after discovering Amy is pregnant, Kevin dies. The story then moves forward sixteen years to show Amy and her teenage daughter, Keelie, visiting Kevin’s grave, with Amy realizing that even though things didn’t turn out quite the way she’d planned, her dreams of a happy family and peaceful life have come true.
In its currently-finished form, Put Away Your Dreams is fifteen chapters (including prologue and epilogue) , 222 pages and 48,519 words long.
It would attract audiences who enjoyed books such as Angela Bowie’s autobiographical Backstage Passes: Life on the Wild Side with David Bowie, and films like 1998’s Velvet Goldmine, as well as people who are members of the gay community. I am ready to promote it on my own through my website, http:///www.payd.cjb.net.

Thank you for your time,
Alicia McNeary, aka Astin Darby
