~Growin' up isn't always fun, they tore your dress and stole your ribbons. They see you cry, they lick their lips, but butterflies don't belong in nets. Oh Mary can you hear me? Mary you're bleedin'. Don't be afraid, we're just waking up and I hear help is on the way.~-Tori Amos 'Mary'
Chapter 1
Even though he'd been oddly happy a moment before, Curt tensed up and felt the hair on the back of his neck bristle when he heard Mandy crying from behind the door. He'd asked her to send the divorce papers to Brian, but she'd insisted on delivering them herself. Now he felt too bad to even say 'I told you so'. If she'd just been pissed off he might have made fun a little, but...
He sighed, hesitantly opening the door.
"Mand?"
Mandy looked up, dropping a tissue onto the floor. Curt bit his lip when he saw her face. Her eyes were tinted red and circled in smudged eye makeup. Her face was flushed, and there were still tears running down her cheeks.
Hesitantly, he walked over, sitting beside her on the bed.
"What happened?"
"Nothing."
"You wouldn't be crying over nothing" he put an arm around her shoulders, and when she didn't object he pulled her closer,
"What'd he do?"
"Nothing much, I guess. Just...he was just Brian. Typical Lord Brian who couldn't believe that a lowly mortal wouldn't want to be married to him anymore" she coughed, leaning her head against Curt's chest.
"It wouldn't have been so bad...I mean, he's laughed at me before, I'm used to that, and I'm used to him taking other people's words to hurt me...but he tried to get Shannon to throw me out, like I was some insane groupie or something" she clutched at Curt's leather jacket, sobbing.
"I thought he loved me. How could I have been so...so stupid?"
Curt shook his head, holding her tight and rocking her slightly, pressing his lips against her hair.
"Shh...we were both stupid. I thought he loved me too. He does that to people, makes them blind to everything except whatever fucking illusion he wants them to see."
Mandy just hiccuped, nuzzling her face into Curt's warmth. If she hadn't been so upset she would have laughed. It really was funny when you stopped to think about it. She used to hate Curt because she thought he had taken Brian away from her. It was only when it all fell apart, when Brian threw both of them away, that she realized that neither of them had ever had him. And now they had each other, but as good as it felt to be really and truly loved by someone, she couldn't fight away the silly obsession she still had for Brian.
Suddenly she realized that Curt's arms were no longer around her. She looked up, frowning when she saw him changing.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm going to go talk to him."
"What is there to talk about? Going to make him take back all the awful things he said about me?"
Curt turned around, flipping his long blonde hair out of his face with an impish smile.
"Yes" he zipped up his jeans and then walked over to Mandy again, bending down to kiss her.
"Be back before six." and before she could object he was out the door.
Chapter 2
Brian started from his drugged haze when he heard a familiar snapping voice. Fuck, it couldn't be...could it?
"Where the hell is he?"
Then Shannon's nervous high pitched prattle..
"Why should I let you know?"
"Because if you don't, I'll do something I might regret."
Yes. Defintely Curt.
Brian shook his head, pulling on a pair of wrinkled pants and walking out of the room. Shannon and Curt both turned their heads when the door creaked. Shannon blinked, trying to walk towards Brian.
"Brian I'm really sorry, I tried to keep him-"
"It's all right Shannon. Leave us alone for a moment, will you?"
Shannon stared like a stricken deer and then she turned away, walking away with a very pissed off air. Brian laughed, smirking at Curt.
"What're you doing here?"
Instead of answering him, Curt stormed towards Brian, grabbing his arm.
"Where the hell do you get off treating people like you do?"
Brian blinked, staring into Curt's hazel eyes with a look of confusion and shock.
"Whatever do you mean?"
"What you did to Mandy earlier. I understand why you did what you did to me, but she's actually trying to leave. You forced me out of your life, and yet you think it's a joke that she wants to. You're a real asshole Brian."
Brian laughed at the rush of words.
"How long did you spend on that little speech?" he yelped when Curt slammed him against a wall.
"Fuck! Christ, why do you care so much about her anyway? You used to hate her gut-" he stopped short as he suddenly realized what was going on. He laughed a little.
"Oh gawd, don't tell me you're banging her."
Curt just tightened his grip on Brian's arm, his normally pale skin growing pink with rage. Brian shook his head.
"You actually care about that little tramp, don't you? Figures, you're both so trashy, you're a perfect match."
The corner of Curt's eye twitched, causing Brian to laugh even more.
"You think she's wonderful, don't you? That I should give her respect because she deserves it? You didn't learn anything from me. She's a little slut, she only attached herself to you to get a roof over her head and to get laid once in awhile."
Before he could even think of defending himself, Curt's fist had hit Brian's face and Brian was laying on the floor, covering his nose.
"You fucking-" he was cut off when Curt set his foot on his ribcage.
"Listen. I'm not here for myself, you fucker. I left, and I don't care about getting revenge or anything like that. I know you didn't give a shit about me. But you did things to her that made me lose any bit of respect I might have had for you" he paused, kicking Brian in the ribs.
"I'm lucky she actually trusts me after the way you worked her over. And if you don't sign those papers, I'm coming back here and I'll be bringing Mandy back some of your teeth, got it?"
Brian mumbled something incoherant, wincing as Curt pulled him up to his feet. He stumbled to the bedroom, coming out with the papers and a pen. He shakily signed them, thrusting them out to Curt's hand.
"Dere" Brian muttered, still covering his nose. Curt laughed at his speech, walking out with a smile on his face.
Chapter 3
"Knock knock" Curt laughed when Mandy jumped from where she'd been sitting, wiping away what was left of her make-up. She ran over to him, touching him all over, seeming to be feeling for cuts or broken bones.
"What took you so long? Jesus, I was worried sick" she gasped when she saw blood on his knuckles, frowning.
"What did he-" she cut off when she didn't see a cut. Her eyes met his and she sighed when he just grinned.
"I was going to ask what he did to you, but I'm guessing you did something to him."
"Just broke his nose, kicked him in the ribs. It won't kill him."
Mandy sighed, running her fingers through Curt's hair.
"It's so sweet when you feel the need to fight for my honor" she kissed him deeply, then pulled back.
"Sort of makes me wish I had some."
As she said this, Curt realized she was wearing a very skimpy black nightie. He grinned and stepped closer to her.
"Do I need to show you you're worth fighting for?"
"Cur..." the word stopped in her throat as Curt gently walked her backwards towards the bed, kissing her shoulder and throat as he did. Curt laughed softly, shivering as her hands slipped under his shirt, shoving it off with one quick motion.
"You're gorgeous, you know that, right?" he murmured into her collar as he began sliding her negligee down her body. Even if Mandy could have thought of a reply, it would have been smothered by her gasps as Curt's tongue slid over her breasts. She sighed, closing her eyes as he moved lower, covering her abdomen with kisses. Her fingers slid into her hair and she let out a low whisper.
"I don't deserve you."
Curt looked up then, and moved so they were eye to eye.
"Don't ever say that again" he put his hand under her chin, gently rubbing his thumb across her lips.
"I don't care about what the hell Brian told you, you aren't some low down wretch who doesn't deserve being loved, got it? If there's an unworthy person here, it's me" he punctuated the words with a harsh kiss, then pulled back.
"Got it?"
Mandy laughed, kissing him back.
"I get it" then, without warning, she turned over onto him and began working his pants down his legs.
Curt moaned a little, trying to get his hands to work on getting her nightgown off the rest of the way.
"You're unbelievable."
"Mmm, thanks" Mandy smiled, shoving the silky material off her body just a few seconds after she tossed his pants onto the floor.
Curt sighed as Mandy wrapped her legs around his waist, arching his neck slightly. As she moved and he felt himself getting closer, he moved a bit so he could wrap his arms around her, holding her tight against his chest. She gasped against his ear, biting his neck as she climaxed moments before his, which left finger-shaped bruises on her back.
After they cooled down, Curt rolled over to face Mandy, stroking her hair.
"Mand? You awake?"
Mandy opened her eyes halfway before closing them again and nodding.
"Mmm-hmm."
Curt bit his lip, wondering if he should say 'never mind' and turn out the light. He'd wanted to say this for weeks now, but something in the back of his mind had kept him quiet. Deciding to get it over with and let everything fall as it would, he leaned his forehead against hers.
"I love you."
He waited for a response, and then touched her hair.
"Mand?"
She just nuzzled into the touch, smiling dreamily. Curt sighed and reached his free arm over to turn out the light. Before he closed his eyes, though, he heard Mandy murmur,
"Love you too."
