What's here...in my head ~_^
Nov. 29th, 2005 06:45 pmhydrocephalus (hī'drəsĕf`ələs), also known as water on the brain, developmental (congenital) or acquired condition in which there is an abnormal accumulation of body fluids within the skull. The congenital form may be associated with other abnormalities. The acquired form may follow meningitis or another cerebral inflammation or tumor. The accumulation of fluid causes compression of the brain and enlargement of the skull, sometimes with separation of bone structures. Paralysis and death may result or, at the least, mental retardation. Many forms of therapy, including surgery, have been attempted, but usually without much success in extreme cases.
I mentioned in my 20 random things, and I've mentioned it a few other times. I finally found the actual spelling of my brain condition: hydrocephalia (us). As you can see above, it says in most cases, at the least, it resulsts in mental retardation. If you want to get technical, YES I am mildly retarded. I have brain damage in what is, oddly enough, the 'creative' center of the brain. I can't draw (I don't see things the way most people who can draw do) and I have A LOT of trouble understanding the abstract things in math. Numbers are solid, they make sense which is why I did good in algebra. However, shapes are confusing. Especially geometry, in which you cannot trust your eyes which I don't anyway. This condition is also the reason I can't wear normal sized hats (my brain is swollen, thus my head is kind of big. Not grossly so, just...yeah), and part of the reason for my klutziness.

on 2005-11-30 02:10 am (UTC)I also have other health problems: migraines (which are congenital and probably accentuated due to the water on the brain) and hormone problems (I almost went through puberty at age five. I had to be on hormone shots once a month for five years). Yeah, funness.
