So, since I'm home, I stayed up late talking to my dad. He's really fun to bounce creative stuff off of. He's had this vampire story in his head for like two decades and has been playing with story structure the whole time, so he kind of gets how it works. (We both agree on characters coming from something else, but we do disagree on just how much control a scribe has over the characters). So I vented about some issues I've been having with IAOB. They are many, but they all kind of trace back to one thing. It's...kind of a physics of the world thing. It's the issue I always have with fantasy, is understanding the rules of how a world works and making them stick. Irving's been a bit of a problem for me as I knew, logically, he couldn't be in Purgatory and a ghost. It doesn't work that way, and I think Irving himself knew I was getting it kind of wrong, but he didn't feel fit to explain, partially because he doesn't give a damn about religion, and partially because, like 99.9% of characters, he doesn't want to make it easy on the scribe.

So basically...what we came up with is...there's some major restructuring to be done. I knew that would happen. I knew that what I was wroking on was a rough rough. And that's cool. I think I'm going to take a few days to really get the structure down, figuring out exactly what Irving is and what he's capable of, how contact works, etc. No major plot points change, just the way we get there.
