now Bri is prepared to hurt me if I don't follow through with the promise instated here, but oh well.
Chapter 7
February 4, 1974-9:30 PM
“You talked to Jack?”
“Mmm hmm. He’s going to switch the bullet right after he goes over the ‘details’ with Brian.”
Mandy sighed, laying back against James’ chest.
“This better work.”
“Why wouldn’t it? I saw what a silly little chain did to you…”
“Yeah, but what if Jack misses? What if he just hits his shoulder or something? What if he just hits that bag of fake blood and it doesn’t pierce through?”
James smiled a little, kissing her cheek.
“Stop worrying, it raises your blood pressure.”
“Oh stop it, I’m perfectly fine.”
James laughed, stroking his fingers along her neck.
“Just get some sleep, okay? Everything’ll go off fine. By this time tomorrow we’ll be on our way to New York.”
“God I hope you’re right…” she turned over, snuggling up to him and promptly falling asleep. James, however, stayed up the whole night praying that her worries really were silly and that he was right. What if, somehow, Jack did miss? They couldn’t very well leave if Brian was still alive, and once he found out….he glanced down at he angel sleeping in his arms, worry leaving him cold as he thought about what Brian would try to do to her. And what he would have to do to keep it from happening.

“You okay?”
Mandy nodded weakly, leaning her forehead against the window. God, it was too bright out even though she was wearing sunglasses.
James reached over, rubbing her shoulder.
“Morning sickness again?”
“Mmm…that, the fact it’s less than a week before the full moon and I’m scared as hell.”
He sighed, kissing the back of her neck.
“Don’t worry. I talked to Jack on the phone before we left. Everything’s going as planned.”
“So far.”
James wrapped his arms around her, drawing her close.
“Stop worrying. Even if, God forbid, things do go wrong, remember I’ll protect you. I won’t let him hurt you, not again.”
Mandy smiled weakly, wanting to ask how she could be expected to trust that promise after all that had happened. True, both times he had come into the room and the last time he’d kept the worst from happening, and she also knew that if he had put himself in danger she would have yelled at him later, but the words still seemed empty.
The limo stopped and the driver walked around, opening the doors. Mandy sighed, glancing up at the marquee. Fucking ‘Maxwell Demon’. If anything, Brian’s creation was the monster, not her. She didn’t tear people’s lives to shreds or take pleasure in causing her supposed ‘soul mate’ pain.
She felt James’ arm wrap around her shoulder and smiled weakly, letting him usher her into the theater.
7:00 PM
“Security around the performer has tightened following a recent BBC interview in which he admitted to premonitions of being assassinated on-stage….”
“Turn it off.”
Shannon started a little and flicked off the telly. Why would Brian be bothered by it? It was just a little stunt, and all the better if the public thought it was real.
One of the roadies peered into the room.
“Brian, time.”
Brian glanced at Shannon, and for a moment she thought she saw something flicker in his eyes. Anxiety? Fear? No, not Brian. He was never anxious or scared. Always cool and collected.
She watched as he walked out, suddenly feeling a little worried herself. To shake away the feeling, she started tidying up his dressing table.
Mandy and James stood way in the back, away from the rabid fans who ran into the arena. Mandy sighed, leaning against James as the PA blared.
“Ladies and gentlemen...The Lyceum Theatre in cooperation with Bijou Music is proud to present...”
Mandy glanced to the side, seeing Jack load the gun. She tensed a little, crossing her fingers. She felt James’ lips brush against her forehead, but from the feel of his arms around her knew that he was finally worried about if the plan would go off successfully or not.
“...straight back from their fantastically successful European Tour...Maxwell Demon and The Venus in Furs!”
Mandy closed her eyes after Brian pranced onto the stage, turning her face into James’ chest. She didn’t want to see whatever was about to happen.
The music played, the groupies screamed. She mentally screamed as well, yelling at Jack to just do it already and get it over with.
He missed his cue. She heard that, he should have been singing by now. She glanced up to see him just standing there, eyes locking on him just in time to hear the blast and to see his body go flying.
