Les Miserables
Mar. 11th, 2009 01:32 pmSecond topic for
splix, because it's another easy one.
In my sophomore year of high school, the drama dept was putting on the musical of Les Mis. I was in Drama I at the time and was not involved with the production. However, as I was really getting into theater, I knew I wanted to see it. Also, I was in French at the time so added bonus. However, I'm one of those people who has to read the book before seeing the adaptation.
The library had an abridged copy (still in the area of 800 pages if I recall). I'll be honest: I don't remember much. It's been too long and I've read a lot inbetween. All I know is I fell in love. I missed most of the movie my French class watched, but I own it now (haven't watched it due to it being VHS and my VCR being psychotic).
And of course I saw the musical. I actually saw it with Bri, the first of...I think three shows we went to together in the time we were both at Central. We had craptastic seats (anyone who went to CHS--the orange bars, all I have to say), but it was still breathtaking. So that's what comes to mind when I think of Les Mis--the musical and how fucking aweswome CHS did. So really, Les Mis was what enamoured me with the school's drama department. I'd heard amazing things, but until then I didn't believe.
Also, Les Mis gave me my introduction to the French Revolution...and contains abut 80% of all I know still, heh.
Doing this topic makes me remember *again* that I don't have the soundtrack. I'll have to change that, and maybe I'll find the time to read it again.

on 2009-03-11 08:05 pm (UTC)I started the book by Victor Hugo, but didn't get very far. I plan on re-reading it when I get the chance. What I did read was amazing.
And ahahaha. I'm sorry you got those horrible seats. Were you there during the performance when the fire marshal came and we had to cut down the blockade because it wouldn't fit through the door? Well, I'm not sure if you would have known about that anyway. We had a performance where a lot went wrong, but the audience didn't realize it. xD We almost got shut down because some douche decided to enjoy the show and then report us for being a fire hazard without informing us at all. Sigh. Still a little angry about that.
