My mother and I just had a discussion about this. Like, five seconds ago when I read the story and was pissed.
Mother: Honey, if they don't do that before the 'transformations' complete, there are always those weirdos-
Me: Yeah. And the women get raped. That's what happens to transwomen. That and worse.
I should have said transpeople, because I know it happens to transmen just as, if not more often.
They would make her use her male birth name and completely disregard, and disrespect, her identity as a trans-woman.
She chose to face death rather than be forced to be who she wasn't.
I want to punch a wall.
