(no subject)
Jun. 4th, 2005 02:16 pmWell I finished reading 'Dance of the Gods' by Norma Bisheir (sp?). Love it! Also read the book of poetry mum got me awhile ago, Rod McKuen's 'Stanyan Street & Other Sorrows'. Love it, love it, love it. One of my many favorites from this book. (due to LJ's dumb formatting, one of the lines is not where it is supposed to be. 'my ears', should be directly under 'now' in the third stanza)
Poem
The smell goes first
The smell that closed rooms have
when women are about.
No coffee smell,
no sweet stale smell of bath,
no hair smell on the pillow,
no smell of beds too long unchanged
I kept the window closed all day
trying to retain what little of you there was left.
And now the darkness like firecrakers ringing in my ears,
trying to sleep in the same unchanged bed
calling back old images
to make the evening come out right.
