Something I just thought of. Awhile ago on the news, it mentioned that my state has the lowest number of laws protecting the rights of gay couples and reproductive rights, and some official said this was something to be proud of. And, from something I just read...how the hell can you be 'proud' of the fact that while it is not illegal for a woman to have a homebirth here, it IS illegal for her to have a midwife there? That makes no fucking sense.

EDIT: I know we're not the only state that has made it illegal for a midwife to attend a homebirth. All the states who do are stupid, and it's even MORE stupid that we're fucking proud about it.

S.D. is beautiful, but I no longer want to live there, knowing the facts. :(

Since when is a midwife a danger to anyone? Many of my friends have had home births and what would they have done w/o their midwives?

From talking to my father and reading the wonderful book Baby Catcher, it's something to do with the fact that for one, they want to encourage women to go to the hospital because some stupid women who decide to do home births even though they're high riks have sued their midwives and caused a lot of problems.
