Well talking to Char. Went to town with Grandma and went shopping. Got Scarlet's Walk (FINALLY!) and the 1000 Oceans single. TOAL should arrive tomorrow, so the only studio album I'll need is Little Earthquakes. Then onto amazon to collect singles! Oh, and the last chapter of Twinkle!
Chapter 12
July 1, 1975-4:30 AM
“God, it’s too fucking early for a flight…” Mandy muttered, leaning her head sleepily against James’ shoulder. He smiled, kissing her hair.
“Yes, but it’s the only way we can be sure no one will see us leaving.”
“Mmm…” she lazily got up after him, pulling on her clothes.
“I’m still scared though. I mean, yeah, New York is a big place but things can happen.”
“It’s safer there than it is here. Besides, I need to get to work on the album.”
“Oh yes, I completely forgot. If you go much longer without your music you might just collapse” she smirked, kissing him. He laughed, cupping her neck.
“You know I’d give up playing forever if it was for you, Mand.”
“I know, and that’s why I love you” she softly kissed his chin and then, as he gathered up their few suitcases, she knelt to the floor and gently lifted their daughter out of the tiny basket she slept in. The infant whimpered a little and Mandy put her over her shoulder, stroking her back.
“Shhh. It’s okay Jamie, Mommy’s gotcha…”
James smiled as Mandy made little whimpering yips against Jamie’s ear, smiling even more when the little girl calmed and fell asleep again to them.
“You realize it’s going to take awhile to get used to that.”
“You knew what you were going into long before she was born, darling.”
“Yes, but it’s still weird” he laughed, wrapping his arms around her for a brief moment.
“C’mon, we’d better get going if we want to catch our flight.”
A few hours later, James was staring blankly out the window of the plane while Mandy slept peacefully against his shoulder and Jamie in his arms. God, they’d gone through far too much in the past two years. It just wasn’t right. No one had ever really cared for Mandy before, she’d been beaten in the shadows for so long and now that she’d actually found someone the entire world seemed to be ganging up on her.
Last night he had almost thought of leaving, letting her start over fresh by herself. After all, up until Brian no one had really known and she’d survived. But one look at her sleeping face and that of his daughter kept him there. He could never leave them to face the world alone. Even if it meant running from those who just didn’t understand for the rest of their days, it was worth it.
He smiled at this thought and delicately kissed Mandy’s forehead, running his finger along his daughter’s face.
“My girls…”
And then he succumbed to sleep himself, lulled by dreams of the hope that things would finally start to turn around when they landed.
To be continued…
