well well

Rping right now. Later today (like, in an hour), we're going to town to drop the sis off at the movies with a friend and I'm going to spend my good grade money from granny (twenty bucks, plus whatever mum'll kick in). Might get Tales of a Librarian or a Tori single if they have it. No matter what I'm getting a bottle of CD scratch remover, since I really need it. And I wrote the next chappy of Twinkle last night! Def. not great, but the girls were hungover from staying at the Choirgirl Hotel with Tori's muses.

Chapter 9
May 21, 1974-5:30 AM

James blinked wearily when he felt Mandy move away from him and saw her head lift up. He gently rubbed her shoulder.
"What is it?"
Her nose twitched slightly and she huffed.
"Sophie's here."
He sighed, rubbing his eyes and sitting up.
"She's probably just here to help."
"I don't need that bitch's help" she mumbled, starting to get up when the pain made her sit back down. James frowned, moving closer and wrapping his arms around her.
"She's apologized for what she did, hasn't she?"
"It doesn't change the fact that she threw me into the world alone."
"I'm sure she didn't know want to. You were both young and scared, her fear just drove her in another direction."
Mandy closed her eyes, letting his touch soothe her.
"Fine, I'll talk to her just to make you happy."
"Good" he started kissing her neck when the door opened. Sophie and Myra were standing there, along with a few other women dressed in dark clothing. Mandy sighed.
"All right, I guess we'd better get this over and done with, huh?"
Myra glanced at the women and then walked out of the room, shutting the door. Mandy titled her head slightly in a confused manner.
"Who're these gals, Soph?"
"Pack members."
"Oh. The man killers."
Sophie glared a little, walking over and sitting on the edge of the bed with the girls sitting beside her or on the floor.
"They weren't the ones who did it."
"Whatever. What help can you give me that Aunt Myra can't?"
"We can give you protection. Your aunt knows who you are, and she'll do the best she can, but she's only one woman."
"Why should I trust that you can protect me?"
"Despite the fact that people know about and hunt us, none of us have died."
Mandy sighed.
"We'll have to come with you, won't we?"
Sophie nodded.
"It wouldn't even be safe for you to leave the state until this blows over. Someone might catch you before you can."
"How long do you think that'll be? Until Dad gets senile and forgets what happened?" she snapped bitterly.
"This place isn't my home Soph. New York is. I just came to visit, I don't want to get stuck here with you and your bull dyke pack."
One of the women stood up then, anger in her eyes. Sophie put her hand out.
"It's all right Ellen. Ami and I have a past-"
"And stop calling me Ami. My name's Mandy now, it has been for almost a decade."
"-Mandy and I have a past that makes her rather irrational whenever I'm around."
"Irrational? Irrational is expecting me to give up the small semblance of a life I have for some sort of mob protection."
James winced when he saw her grip the sheets in anger. He gently put a hand on the back of her neck.
"Look luv, maybe it's for the best right now. Just until you're stronger. I couldn't bear seeing you get hurt again."
Mandy drew in a slow, shuddery breath. Then, she turned to face him.
"Damn you, you always convince me to do things that make me sick."
James grinned.
"It's a talent" he kissed her softly, running his fingers through her hair.
Sophie coughed uncomfortably, breaking up the mushy scene.
"The car's waiting outside, your aunt already put your things in."
"Oh, so you were taking me no matter what?"
"Of course" Sophie smirked slightly and walked out with the other girls.

“You live here?” Mandy wrinkled her nose when she looked at the old barn. Sophie shrugged.
“It’s only two levels so we always know where everyone is, and no one comes looking for us.”
Mandy sighed, leaning her head against James’ shoulder as they got out of the van.
“As long as they leave us alone I’ll be fine.”
James kissed her hair, wrapping his arm across her shoulders while they walked after the other women to the barn. He tensed up the second they walked through the door as ten pairs of eyes locked on them and seemed to pierce through him.
Sophie stepped away from the couple then, speaking to the group of women who were currently glaring at James.
“Ladies, this is the woman I told you about when I first came here. My…former mate. Her family just found her out, and as you can see she’s in no condition to run if she’s caught, so she needs to hide out until we can figure out a plan. Everyone is to leave her and her lover alone, all right?”
The women mumbled, grudgingly agreeing to the terms and going to what they’d been doing. Sophie snorted and the woman named Ellen dropped their things in a corner.
“You’ll sleep here” she muttered. James glanced warily at Mandy.
“Do you think they’ll actually let me live?”
“If they come near you, I’ll rip their throats out” she smiled weakly, kissing him.
“Now, if you don’t mind, I’m beat.”
He laughed a little as she flopped down in the corner, resting her head on a bunch of clothes. He wrapped his arms protectively across her shoulders, wishing he would close his eyes and open them to find this was all just a horrible nightmare.
